This piece isn’t just a decanter. It is my one of one transformation of a rare 19th century ruby red cut to clear glass decanter into a bespoke billy set, and there will never be another like it.
Originally crafted by master Bohemian or French glassmakers in the late 1800s to early 1900s, this decanter was already a high value object. The ruby red overlay, created through the labor intensive casing process and then hand cut back to clear, reveals intricate cross hatching and floral or clover motifs that can only come from skilled hands, not machines. The clarity of the cuts, the depth of the red, and the balance of the form speak to a level of craftsmanship that simply does not exist today.
Rather than letting it sit silently in a cabinet, I carefully reimagined it as a luxury billy set, respecting its history while giving it a bold new life.
